A Heart to Serve
New Light MBC Ministries
Deacons
A Biblical background for the office of a deacon can be found in the Book of Acts, Chapter 6, in our Bibles.
Our deacons are appointed men who were willing to serve and minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the church. They also serve as counselors; assistants to the pastor in aiding the sick and needy; and maintaining spiritual order in the church. Deacons are chosen to be servants to God’s people. Responsibilities are assumed to be everything except the duties of the pastor. The qualifications for a deacons are outlined in the Scripture as follows: To be blameless, the husband of one wife, a good household manager, respectable, honest, not addicted to alcohol and not greedy (1 Timothy 3:8-12). According to the Word, the office of deacon is an honor and a blessing. “For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 3:13).
Deaconesses
Deaconesses support the deacons in spreading the gospel, fostering peace, love, and Christian unity. The Deaconess Ministry consists of born again believers who are called to be servants of others. They care for and assist with the needs of the overall congregation. Those needs might include counseling, prayer requests, home and hospital visits to the sick and shut-in, and reporting needs to officers to assist in finding solutions. They are responsible for the preparation and setting up of the Holy Communion and the preparation of candidates for baptism, especially the care of the females in the church.
Deaconess should promote right teachings as declared in Titus Chapter 2, verses 3 – 8.

Sisterhood Ministry
In the year of 1997 of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ our late Pastor Dr. H. B. Williams and First Lady Emeritus Wilma A. Williams was very desirous of a Sisterhood for the ladies of our Church.
A Ministry of help for hurting sisters, a ministry to assist in the sisters coming together to mingle and co-mingle with suggestions, strategies, ideas for uplifting sisters. Upon our formal Pastor taken ill, Sister Sharon Metz Williams was asked to fill in as moderator for First Lady Emeritus Wilma Williams while she cared for our Pastor. On Friday, March 21, 2014 at a night of prayer and power with the sisters. Sister Sharon Metz Williams came to First Lady Jeannette C. Wright and asked her to take over the Sisterhood Ministry.
We are thankful to be standing on the shoulders of First Lady Emeritus Wilma Williams for she has truly set a path for us to follow. With the help of God First Lady Jeannette C. Wright and the Sisters will continue to keep their vision alive. First Lady Jeannette C. Wright is grateful for Pastor Gil H. Wright, First Lady Emeritus Wilma Williams and Sister Sharon Metz Williams for having faith that she will continue keeping the Sisterhood moving forward with the help of God and she also thanks God for all the ladies that take time out of their busy schedules to come to meetings and participate in helping one another.
